What do we mean by statement jackets? Well, some jackets have eccentric features not commonly found on jackets. Whether it has an eccentric feature or design, statement jackets are meant to be bold and stand out from the rest of our outfit.
Bomber Jackets
Bomber jackets were once exclusive to pilots, but not anymore. They have become more popular in Korea’s street fashion, particularly darker tone colors such as black, olive green or an earth brown. If we are looking to have a streetwear style, a bomber jacket with boots would be the way to go.
Puffer Jackets
Puffer jackets have become a trend due to the wear of kpop idols and even kdrama actors and actresses. However, puffer jackets come from the hip-hop streetwear which has been taking over Asian fashion. Oversized Pants
Oversized clothing brings us back to the 90’s fashion styles we used to wear back then, although, it has started to make a comeback in Korean fashion. How do we even begin to wear oversized pants? We want to ensure we are balancing our oversized pants with the solid colors and clothing items that are not oversized but slim.
Athleisure
Athleisure has been a trend gaining popularity as it becomes more acceptable to wear exercise clothing as day to day wear. However in South Korea, no one executes the athleisure style as Koreans do, especially men. The common practice of combining clothing items to complement or contrast each other has been a part of Korean fashion that athleisure does. Korean men tend to pair casual, exercising clothing items with high end pieces to counterbalance themselves. It brings comfort to a whole new style for us to wear anytime.
Logo Fashion
Wearing logos on clothing has continued to be common practice in fashion, however, the logos we wear can be small or reduced to the phrase of the company. But in Korea, the logos have become more bold and louder, atrend started in Korea’s street fashion. Two rules when wearing logos has been to wear one brand at a time and minimize the rest of our outfit.
Aside from becoming a trend, like puffer jackets, logos are associated with the social and economic class. The kind of brand we chose to wear defines and classifies us in many ways. Some of the common brands we can see are Gucci, Supreme or even Korean name brands such as Charms and D-Antidote.
If we want to look chic and effortless in what we wear, the monochrome style will be a choice to go for. For the monochrome style, choose a color and either dress in that solid color with a bold accessory or clothing item, or vary the tones of the color we choose. When we wear an accented clothing item or bold pattern within the same color tone, it will allow the colors to break and call attention to certain pieces of our clothing.
Even though we can chose any color, the monochrome style has often been reserve for earth tone colors or darker color shades. Have fun with the color and pick patterns that speak to us.

Beanies – for the punk rocker look, beanies are best suited or even for the casual look.
Caps – the most common look we see in kpop idols when at the airport or even on an outing into the public eye. Caps are usually in darker tones and can often have the rings on the tip of the cap.

Dress Shoes – although we don’t see most dress shoes, they are common in the business setting and the business fashion of formal attire.
Boots – have been pair with skinny jeans or trousers. Korean men don’t have a problem wearing a heel in their boots; they don’t shy away from stylistic choices.
Bulk Shoes – or chunky shoes also commonly known as, derive from Korea’s Seoul street style. Fila has bulky shoes popular for Koreans to wear.
Brand Shoes – we can wear brand shoes on a daily basis from vans, converses to nike. There is no surprise we are wearing the brands we love. However, if we are going for logo fashion, we want to be consistent with our brand.
Sandals – have started to gain popularity for common wear, even though they are not our typical sandals. Most sandals have a platform to elevate the feet from the floor so as not to get them dirty. Sandals or slippers are reserve for in home use but they are gaining popularity outside.

About ‘Karrot Market’ – The Second-Hand Items App
‘Karrot Market’ is the largest neighbourhood marketplace and community app of South-Korea. At the moment, they are busy with expending to international communities, of which one is already there: the UK. In the UK the app ‘Karrot’ was launched, which works the same as ‘Carrot Market’, only it is in English instead of Korean. They also wanted to launch in three other countries, but due to COVID, they decided to hold that thought and focus more on improving the Korean app for now.
‘Karrot Market’ stands out from the crowd, in the fact that they pay attention to distance. When you’ve installed the app, you allow the app to track your location. They do this because they only show you listings from people located in 6 km (3.7 miles) or less than you. Unless you’re in a not tightly populated area, then they show you sellers a bit further away from you too. Karrot Market’s foundation was to approach neighbourhood’s networking. By adding distance limits, the app encourages interactions among people in the same area and it makes listings easier to spot. Most transactions are therefore also done in person, so you have the security that you receive what you pay for.
Koreans don’t use ‘Karrot Market’ just for selling second-hand items, some of them also search for study buddies on the app. Since it shows listings close to you on the homepage, people use it to find others to study or hangout with. Of course, for this a price won’t be added. When you want to offer to be a study buddy, you just put that in the description and you don’t add a photo. After a while you will most likely get some messages from people who live close and would like to study with you.
The app then also verifies all the members through their location and their phone number as a safety measure. The app is completely free to use.
Besides ‘Karrot Market’, there is another website that has this peer-to-peer second-hand selling: ‘Joonggonara’. Only, this website is not used as often as Karrot market, since it doesn’t have an app.
How does it work
When you open the app, you will see some listings recommended for you, which are close to you. But there is of course also a search bar. In this search bar you can search for whatever you need. Then again you will see listings. Beside the photo you will see a short description, the price and how long ago that person was online. When searching in the search bar, the seller might be further away than 6km (3.7 miles).
Then when you see a certain item that you fancy, you can click on the second-hand item. Then you can click the orange button, which will bring you to a different screen, where you can message the seller.
When you go back to the home page, you can see a message icon in the bottom. Here you can see all your messages with sellers or people who want to buy from you. Via the messages you decide on when and where to meet. And that is it. It’s considered to be an easy app to use for selling and buying,

He has a way of making bold pieces pop in each of his outfits, but never clash with the other items he’s wearing. Most noticeably, j-hope wears quite a bit of Balenciaga clothing/shoes and denim (usually, he’s seen in jeans; if not, then he’s usually wearing a denim jacket).
Wearing an all-blue ensemble, j-hope came to the airport in 2018 in a striped shirt, baggy pants, and thick-soled shoes. Of course, the look wouldn’t be complete without his large, see-through bag.
Bold patterns are a must for j-hope’s fashion sense. At the end of 2019, j-hope took to the airport prior to their New Year’s Eve performance in the US wearing a long patterned coat overtop his earthly-toned clothes. The strong pattern surely made him stand out in the crowd.
The last style for j-hope on our list is his more comfortable wear. Since the members of BTS have gotten their Instagram accounts, they’ve shared many more outfit styles with us. j-hope especially has shown off his sweatpants and sweatshirt combos. Most notably, he wore the Nike x Billie Eilish collection.
Hongjoong, like Joy, has a bit of a wildcard factor to his fashion sense. He wears anything from classy and sharp looking fits to gothic boyfriend looks. He can pull off just about every outfit imaginable. What makes him stand out from others, though, is his reforming. As a personal passion, Hongjoong likes to redesign his outfits. Typically using paint, Hongjoong will “customize” his clothes to make them unique to his style.
One of the most iconic reformations that Hongjoong has done is his “Now you gonna take me there” jacket from 2020. Hongjoong took a plain black, puffy jack and wrote some of the lyrics from their song “Horizon” on the back of the jacket. It gave the jacket a new edge and a unique sense of style.
Another highly loved reformed outfit from Hongjoong is the one he wore to the Grammy Museum at the beginning of 2022. With a cropped white jean jacket, Hongjoong drew a flower and wrote “No1LikeMe” on the collar of the jacket. The jacket is layered overtop a white shirt, a pair of blue jeans with a faux plaid shirt sewn to the back, and white sneakers.
The last outfit on our list for Hongjoong truly shows what the idol’s fashion sense is outside of his reforming. Dressed in a grunge-style and relaxed fit, Hongjoong sports some slip-on shoes, blue jeans, and a graphic shirt.
Similar to Hongjoong, THE8 is another idol who uses his fashion sense to show his own colors and uniqueness—he also indulges in the creativity of reforming his clothes.
Like the two male idols already mentioned, THE8’s personal fashion sense dives more into the streetwear style. He pulls together outfits that not many would be able to pull off but somehow look absolutely amazing on him. Bold colors, loud prints, and his own personal touch to a few clothes of his own, it’s a perfect recipe for a fashion king like THE8.
In 2018, THE8 made quite an impact on SEVENTEEN fans with his outfit choice. With a vibrant print shirt, ripped blue jeans (with a chain attachment), and Converse shoes, this outfit is equal parts sharp and trendy.
Also in 2018, THE8 showed another fashion style. He wears an all-black outfit—black boots, ripped black jeans, and a black turtleneck—underneath a slightly oversized blue button-up. This outfit alone shows THE8’s diverse style.
THE8’s last outfit on our list is actually one he reformed. Like Hongjoong, THE8 enjoys revamping his clothes by drawing/painting on them. So far, he’s painted on numerous outfits of his. The one that stands out the most is the black jumpsuit he took to adding a bit of design to.
Yeonjun is known as a fashion king in his own way. With his appearance at the New York Fashion Week show in 2021, the fourth-generation male idol has made his mark in the fashion world. It’s only right that his fashion sense is impeccable. While geared more toward comfort, Yeonjun wears outfits that are on the sharper side. Including layered outfits, sleeveless tops, and powerful staple pieces. He’s also not afraid to break outside of the “norm.”
Not long after their debut, Yeonjun established his top-tier fashion sense with his amazing airport photos. His black shoes, blue jeans, black turtleneck, and long, black coat look beyond fashionable on him.
Showing off his more formal wear, Yeonjun shared some pictures at the end of 2020 that took fans’ breaths away. The all-black outfit looks sharp on anyone who wears it, but Yeonjun brings out a certain sleek feeling to it that others can’t always replicate.
Though he tends to dress in sharper-looking outfits, he does like wearing quite a bit of streetwear style. One such outfit in this style includes a thick tan vest/jacket, cargo pants, white shoes, and a beanie.
